2010 Imola WSBK QP2 Results - Crutchlow Fastest, But Wet Track Leaves Grid Unchanged

Sterilgarda Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow was the fastest man on Saturday morning at Imola, but a damp track meant that nobody improved on their times set yesterday in the first session of qualifying. As a result, Carlos Checa still leads going into Superpole, ahead of Johnny Rea, Leon Haslam and Noriyuki Haga.

Latest KTM 125 Duke Video Goes to the Well

Marketing in the motorcycle industry is usually derivative at best, and nothing exemplifies that sentiment more than the tried and true rebel typecast that we see slung-around in advertisements on television, print, and the web. So it should perhaps not surprise us to see KTM going back to this marketing well when promoting the KTM [...]

According to our good friends at MotoMatters, Davide Tardozzi has just been handed his pink slip from the BMW World Superbike Team. The Italian manager has been instrumental in helping BMW get its house in order, but Tardozzi and the rest of BMW’s non-German crew are being purged from the team regardless. Valentino Rossi, 2009 MotoGP World Champion

Valentino Rossi, 2009 MotoGP World Champion

Sepang - Valentino Rossi is sure to become a world champion MotoGP season one series remaining. But that does not mean that Rossi to be the best the easy way.

Finish in third position in the Malaysian MotoGP on Sunday (25/10/2009), was enough for Rossi to win the title of world champion motogp seventh in the primary classroom and the ninth in all classes.

"It's a tough year. Racing reflects what happens during this season. Very heavy, with a few mistakes and some disappointing results," said Rossi told Mediaset who told Reuters.

"But I won six races. I perform consistently and I am a champion of the world," said Rossi who won this year's Spanish GP, Catalunya, Netherlands, Germany, the Czech and San Marino.

Rossi became world champion by stopping the fight his team mate, Jorge Lorenzo. In the standings, Rossi has put together the numbers 286, while the new Lorenzo 245, with one series left.

"For me, this is the ninth world title and seventh in the MotoGP, so I must thank everyone at Yamaha, especially in my garage that has helped me achieve this great accomplishment," added Rossi.

Bother At BMW: Tardozzi Fired, Mechanics Threatening Strike

The BMW World Superbike squad has been in the news a lot recently, as the German team finalized their 2011 rider line-up, including the signing of 2010 WSBK title runner up Leon Haslam. But the German-language publication Speedweek has much less positive news about the BMW WSBK factory team, concerning the other side of their 2011 line-up. For Speedweek is reporting that BMW is having a clear-out of mechanics and management, ridding themselves of the non-German members of the WSBK crew.

Chief casualty is team manager Davide Tardozzi, who has reportedly been fired, and then banned from the BMW garage for the final round of World Superbikes at Magny-Cours this weekend. Rumors have been floating round the WSBK paddock for some time now that BMW were unhappy with Tardozzi, despite the Italian having been instrumental in improving the results for the German team. The remainder of the team is still under contract for the final race in France, but Speedweek is reporting that the non-German crew members are threatening to mutiny. They have yet to receive offers of a new contract for 2011, amidst complaints by BMW that the non-Germans are not present at team HQ often enough, the team also threatening not to pay their outstanding salary over the issue.

Consider Denny Hamlin the 2010 NASCAR Chase Favorite

Denny Hamlin believes he's improved as a driver through each the past two seasons.

"Every year you expect yourself to be better than you were the previous year," Hamlin said in February before the Daytona 500. "Without a doubt, I know in my mind that I'm better than I was in 2008 and in 2008 I was better than I was in 2007."

The stats back Hamlin up. Piloting the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11, Hamlin wheeled to a single win amid 12 top-fives and 18 top-tens in 2007. Last year, Hamlin upped his game to a win total of four with 15 top-fives and 20 top-tens -- good for a fifth-place finish in the series standings.

"I think everyone knows on a competitive level we're better every single year," said Hamlin in February. "Last year was just almost good enough performance-wise to win a championship, so what does that mean for 2010?"

Tony Stewart Feels the Love After Crushing New Hampshire Finish

Editor's Note: FanHouse is teaming up with two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart for weekly, in-depth spotlight stories as he competes in the 10-week Chase for the Sprint Cup. Stewart, driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet, is contending to become the first owner-driver to win NASCAR's most coveted title since the late Alan Kulwicki in 1992.

As the sympathetic text messages, emails and cell phone calls rolled in Sunday evening, Tony Stewart showered, grabbed a Coca-Cola and the TV remote and simply lay on the bed in his motor coach inside New Hampshire International Raceway, flipping through the channels and contemplating one of the most heartbreaking days of his racing career.

As his mind raced, the two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champ kept going back to one image -- and it wasn't the moment he realized his race-leading No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet was out of gas with a little more than a lap to go in the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff opener earlier that afternoon.

Instead, Stewart's thoughts kept returning to the pleasantly surprising reception he received from the fans that day as his car silently and solemnly coasted around the track before getting a push into the garage.

"Maybe I was reading it wrong, but I felt like the crowd was applauding that we ran good and were appreciative of what we had done that day,'' said Stewart, who led three times for 100 laps and had a 1.3-second lead on the field when his car ran out of gas just before taking the white flag.

"There are times when you're the unpopular guy and they're cheering because you had bad luck. But I honestly didn't feel like that was the case Sunday and it was the one good feeling I had coming home this week. ''

2010 Imola WSS FP1 Result - Sofuoglu Takes A Commanding Lead

Kenan Sofuoglu has taken the first steps towards securing his second World Supersport championship this weekend by dominating the first session of free practice at Imola. The Ten Kate Honda rider was nearly a second faster than his closest rival, teammate Michele Pirro, but more importantly, Sofuoglu was 1.2 seconds quicker than the man he has to beat to take the championship, Parkalgar Honda's Eugene Laverty. 4th fastest in FP1 was Intermoto Czech's Gino Rea, with Triumph's Chaz Davies just behind in 5th.

Fernando Alonso Wins Singapore GP

Filed under:

SINGAPORE (AP) -- Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has won the Singapore Grand Prix and moved closer to the Formula One championship lead.

The Spaniard made it back-to-back wins Sunday by holding off Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel over the final laps of the race, winning by just two-tenths of a second.

Red Bull's Mark Webber finished third - despite a collision that put McLaren's Lewis Hamilton out of the race. Webber has an 11-point lead in the championship with four races left.

The collision was investigated by stewards, but they took no action.

McLaren's Jenson Button finished fourth, ahead of Mercedes' Nico Rosberg and Williams' Rubens Barrichello.

Casey Stoner moved from Ducati to Honda

Certainty Casey Stoner moved from Ducati to Honda started the 2011 season turned out to cause problems. Because chances are the Honda still has two main riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso.

Pedrosa was deliberately extended his contract. But Dovizioso refuse removed by Stoner because there is a clause about a contract extension if he could enter the top five in the final competition of 2010.

2010 Imola WSBK FP1 Result - The Althea Ducatis Take Charge

The Althea Ducati combination Carlos Checa and Shane Byrne kicked off the Imola World Superbike round by controlling the top of the timesheets for most of the first session of free practice for the World Superbike class. Only a brief interruption by Kawasaki's Tom Sykes kept Checa and Byrne from dominating. Xerox Ducati's Michel Fabrizio made it a Ducati 1-2-3, while Ten Kate's Johnny Rea put his Hannspree Honda into 4th. The first blow in the title race was struck by Max Biaggi, who went 0.13 seconds faster than the only man who can stop him from winning his first WSBK crown, Leon Haslam. But with Biaggi in 9th and Haslam in 11th, both the Aprilia and Suzuki man have plenty of work to do.
