Rossi?s opinion of the Lorenzo negotiations

This quote comes from the Spanish language website elmundodeportivo.es. The message and the sentiment are clear: “You aren’t worth what I get paid Jorge”. From elmundodeportive.es, translation by Fans.Moto.GP (Thanks!): What Jorge is looking for seems presumptuous to me: Arrive at Yamaha, and in his second year ask that he be given the same treatment [...]

Recall: 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R

Kawasaki is recalling2,480 units of its 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R motorcycles for a faulty wiring harness. Affecting both the base and ABS versions of the motorcycle, it is possible that the wiring harness can become pinched between the rear subframe and the rear fender or the bolt holding the seat cover. If the wiring harness does become pinched, it could damage the harness and cause an electrical short in the system, which could stop the engine ...

The Fiat Yamaha team have been surrounded by hype this past few weeks. Moto GP Germany

Round 10 of the Moto GP world championship took place under the sweltering summer sun in Germany at the Sachsenring track on the 15th July. Many feared that tyres would be a deciding factor as the excessive heat might cause the tyres to break up over the 30 lap race.

On pole started the Australian chamipionship leading Ducati rider Casey Stoner out to prove that being on pole is not cursed as many fear and the only way he could do that was to win. Starting in a very good 2nd position on the grid was Dani Pedrosa on his Repsol Honda and alongside him closing out the front row was Marco Melandri on his Gresini Honda. Randy de Puniet started in 4th place on his Kawasaki, lining up next to him was the American John Hopkins on his Rizla Suzuki and aside him the ever-threatening Valentino Rossi on his Fiat Yamaha. Following these top 6 riders from qualifying was, in order, Loris Capirossi, Alex Barros, Sylvain Guintoli, Shinya Nakano closing out the top 10 and Chris Vermeulen started in 11th. Nicky Hayden started way down in 14th place, his team having already apologised to the Texas Tornado for not providing him with a decent bike for the weekend as he had struggled with various problems since Friday.

Dani Pedrosa got off to a good start and led into turn one, Casey Stoner in 2nd place and bringing up 3rd was Marco Melandri, coming out in 4th after the 1st corner was John Hopkins. On lap 2 Marco Melandri got passed Stoner who didn't seem to put up too much of a fight. Casey Stoner re-passed Melandri at the end of lap 2 and then got passed Dani Pedrosa as well, but only for a few metres as Pedrosa came straight back at him to re-take the lead of the German Moto GP. With 3 laps gone Carlos Checa went down but was able to eventually get his bike back up and into the pits. There his team changed his gear lever which had broken and he went back out onto the track with his race obviously over.

Valentino Rossi found himself stuck behind the green Kawasaki of Randy de Puniet and not being able to find a way past the Frenchman. Chris Vermeulen's race was effectively over as it was announced that he needed to serve a "driver-through" penalty for jumping the start of the race. Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli's race came to an early end as he crashed out with 26 laps to go.

Then came one of the most important parts of the race. Valentino Rossi pushed too hard into a corner trying to pass on the inside of Randy de Puniet and he and his bike went down sliding across the asphalt and into the gravel trap. Rossi struggled with his bike to try and get back into the race but simply couldn't; his handlebars were broken in the fall.

With a full 22 laps left in the race Dani Pedrosa was already starting to pull away from Casey Stoner and his Ducati with his lead being extended to slightly more than 0.8 seconds. On lap 10 Alex Barros crashed out on his Ducati, his race over immediately while he clutched his injured right hand tightly to his chest to avoid further injury to it. With 14 laps to go Nicky Hayden passes fellow American Colin Edwards while the gap from Pedrosa's Repsol Honda to Aussie Stoner's Ducati had grown to as much as over 2.5 seconds. With 12 laps left of the race not only was Stoner falling further and further back from away from the Spaniard Pedrosa, who was now lapping the German track 2 seconds faster than the Australian, but he was now comeing into the clutches of the chasing Marco Melandri and Loris Capirossi. Into corner one of the Sachsenring gp track Stoner became the center of a Capirossi and Melandri sandwich as they both tried to pass him, Melandri taking the outside line and Capirossi the inside. Melandri ran wide though and had to abort the pass while Capirossi went through and up into 2nd place.

While Dani Pedrosa rode unchallenged at front heading to his first win in over a year, the rest of the pack were fighting for the final positions and points. With 9 laps left in the race Marco Melandri managed to pass the defending Stoner who was clearly just trying to hang on with his tyres having fallen away drastically by now. He now was in damage limitation mode with both Nicky Hayden and John Hopkins closing in on the current championship leader. On lap 23 the flying Texas Tornado was able to get passed both John Hopkins and Casey Stoner, Hayden's compatriot Colin Edwards was also able to pass the other American John Hopkins. With 6 laps to go Nicky Hayden even managed to pass Marco Melandri for the final podium spot, having started way down in 14th place. With 4 laps left Casey Stoner passed Marco Melandri for 5th position.

So, the top 7 race positions:

1) Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda)

2) Loris Capirossi (Ducati)

3) Nikcy Hayden (Repsol Honda)

4) Colin Edwards

5) Casey Stoner

6) Marco Melandri

7) John Hopkins

Qatar in March is an oddity. A race in the cooler evening air, floodlit. If that’s not different enough for you, throw in a covering of sand which makes any excursion from the thin, black racing line an adventure in optimism or blind faith depending on the rider. So Qatar is not a good race [...]

News ? A Confident Yamaha WSB Team Returns to the U.K for Round 9

A Confident #Yamaha WSB Team Returns to the U.K for Round Nine at #Silverstone

Yamaha World Superbike riders Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty are geared up and all set for Silverstone this coming weekend, the second British round of the 2011 World Superbike calendar. This can be considered as the second ?Home race? for Eugene Laverty. The rider from Northern Ireland is determined to impress on his home turf and make up for the less than perfect results obtained in the first of the two British stop offs, earlier this season in Donington Park. Laverty has fond memories of the British track due to his spectacular victory in the 2010 World Supersport category and sets out determined to repeat this performance in his debut year in World Superbikes. Teammate Marco Melandri, fresh from two victories in the last two rounds of the championship, Aragon and Brno, heads to the U.K stronger and more optimistic than ever. The Italian has his sights on success and a place on what was a British dominated podium last year.

Silverstone is possibly the most historical and internationally famous circuit on the calendar and is host to some of the world?s most prestigious sporting events. The track underwent major reconstruction prior to last year?s WSB event. Renovations consisted in remodeling a new layout complex which rendered the fast flowing track even more challenging and rewarding. Many high speed and fast corners such as Copse, Abbey and Stowe are characteristic of the British track.

Marco Melandri

Yamaha World Superbike Team

?I think Silverstone is one of the best tracks of the season. I really enjoyed riding there last year with the GP and I?m looking forward to riding it with my R1. It?s a nice flowing track with some fast corners and these characteristics should be suitable for my bike. Crutchlow came away with two race wins last year and I?m confident the yamaha will be strong there this year also. I?m looking forward to the weekend and I?m optimistic we can get some good results.?

Eugene Laverty

Yamaha World Superbike Team

?Silverstone is one of my favourite tracks on the calendar following the best victory of my career in the World Supersport category, last season. The fast nature of the track really suits my style and there's many passing opportunities if it comes down to a last lap fight. The start/finish line has been moved for 2011 and so I'm going to have to rethink my race strategy. Last year I made my race-winning overtake into Abbey on the last lap but it's now the first corner which changes things quite a bit. I'm looking forward to the new challenge though and I'd love nothing more than to walk away with a victory, or two, at my home round."

Silverstone technically speaking according to Silvano Galbusera

Marco Melandri's crew chief

"Silverstone is usually a good track for the R1. We intend starting with the set-up we used in Brno but we need to pay particular attention to tyre life. Silverstone is a track with very poor grip so we need to use a soft compound tyre. We have studied the data from Cal?s set up last year and know what to do to improve on tyre performance. In the last two races we made improvements with the engine brake of the machine. Marco likes to have a consistent bike, with the same behavior from the beginning of the race to the end but the soft tyre deteriorates quickly and it?s difficult to keep the pace for the last five or six laps. We need to work on improving this."

Silverstone technically speaking according to Frankie Carchedi

Eugene Laverty's crew chief

"At Brno we attained more solid top five finishes. The team has worked hard since then to find those final tenths we were missing mainly on the straights. Silverstone is one of the fastest race tracks on the calendar, also very flowing, which will suit the Yamaha and also Eugene?s riding style. We will start with our base set-up on bike 1, and work from there. The weather forecast looks like it could be a hot weekend, and Silverstone can be notoriously slippy the hotter the track temperature gets, so we will work on the chassis to maximize grip."

Andrea Dosoli - Yamaha World Superbike Team Manager

"I?m very much looking forward to the next round. Last year went really well for us when Cal won both races, showing how the R1 performs well on the flowing British track. Following the strong race and positive results in Brno, we are heading to Silverstone optimistic. I expect good results from both riders as this kind of track is ideal for Marco?s style of riding and Eugene came away victorious last year in Supersport. We?ve a special link with England as Marco got his first ever win in WSB in Donington and it?s also Eugene?s home race. We are confident and are looking forward to enjoying the races together with the crowd of British fans."

Davies Gears up for Home Race at Silverstone

This coming weekend's race at Silverstone, U.K marks the eighth round of the 2011 World Supersport Championship. The first of the two British stop offs on this year?s calendar (Donington Park), saw the Yamaha ParkinGO Team claim a spectacular one-two race win. Yamaha ParkinGO are now setting out for the historical track at Silverstone, intent on repeating that outstanding performance and returning to the podium for the seventh time this season.

Brit, Chaz Davies is geared up and confident ahead of Sunday?s race where he aims for victory on his home soil to further secure his position at the top of the standings, on the road to the championship title. Davies has proved to be the strongest contender of the Championship, powering his R6 to victory on three occasions and claiming a further two podiums, to date.

After two less than perfect rounds, Luca Scassa is also eager to head to the British track. The Italian is optimistic that the fast flowing characteristics of Silverstone are ideal for his powerful R6 machine and will enable him to fight for a podium and climb back up the championship standings. Scassa is currently in fifth place with 79 points, just six points off Parkes in second.

Melandri renews with Yamaha

Marco MelandriMarco Melandri has renewed the contract that ties him to Yamaha and the Italian will again ride the YZF-R1 machine in the 2012 FIM Superbike World Championship.

“Yes, next year I’ll still be here in Superbike” revealed the 28 year-old former 250 cc world champion in an interview published in Italian weekly magazine Motosprint. “After changing four bikes and four teams in the last four years I am very happy to be able to build something that will last rather than having to start over again every time.”

On the eve of the ninth round of the calendar this weekend at Silverstone, the Yamaha World Superbike Team has now confirmed its 2012 line-up, with Eugene Laverty already under contract for next season.

“Silverstone is a track that I adore and I really like the fast bits. It’s very long and difficult and I am sure that we’ll offer two great races to all Superbike fans. Brno was fantastic not only for everyone watching but also for us riders. The duel with Max was really exciting, I enjoyed it a lot. He’s an ‘oldie’ but he’s still a strong racer. And I’m sure that in the UK we’ll both have to deal with Carlos Checa again and maybe there’ll some other surprises.”

2011 Laguna Seca MotoGP Friday Round Up - A Fast Yamaha, And Two Slow Ducatis

Friday brought typical Monterrey Peninsula weather to Laguna Seca: cool and overcast in the morning, with temperatures rising and the sun out in the afternoon, but surprisingly, the times did not really tumble during the second session of practice. The difference between the fastest time in each of the two sessions was just a quarter of a second, despite a much warmer track.

Jorge Lorenzo was fastest in the afternoon, but more impressive than his best time was the string of fast laps he reeled off: 7 laps in 1'22.2 or better, and a lot better race pace than either Dani Pedrosa or Casey Stoner, despite the two Hondas being just over a tenth off Lorenzo's best lap. Lorenzo was, unsurprisingly, rather happy, though he claimed that there were improvements to be made with the front end, which is a worrying prospect for the competition.

andrea dovizioso

The Honda rider describes his impression of a perfect lap, while footage of Dovizioso is slowed to a beautiful crawl. At 1,000 frames per second, Dovizioso and his MotoGP bike are quite literally shown at full tilt. The contact patch is tiny, but the action is excellent. Click past the jump for the clip.
